I actually went to the movie theater today! And I saw the new Sherlock Holmes. Short story, it's a fun movie, lots of excitement, wit, and pretty people.
Really, that's the long review as well, if I want to keep it spoiler free. The caper featured in the movie involves a supposed wizard, that has been perpetrating a string of grisly murders, the movie starts just as he's caught.
I haven't had a lot of exposure to the classic Holmes character, but I'm willing to wager that this is not he. As portrayed in this movie, he's a highly neurotic genius, prone to deep bouts of depression between interesting cases, while he's unable to find anything to occupy his intellect. He's also quite charming, and his friendship with Watson is cliched, but still touching.
I don't have a lot more to say about the flick, other than it was fun, and I highly recommend it.
